Kimberly - Ivy Jean Allen Cox, age 90, went home to be in the presence of the Lord, Monday, November 30th, 2015, at her daughter’s home south of Kimberly.
Ivy was born on October 9, 1925 to Samuel and Lillie Suddreth Allen in the old Twin Falls Hospital. She was the youngest of 5 siblings.
Her father died when she was a year old and she was raised through the great depression era by her mother, north of Rogerson on the edge of Deep Creek canyon, in a simple three room shack. Life on the Salmon Tract was hard being raised by a single mother but her mother raised a large garden that fed the whole family and made her young life very enjoyable. She always reminded her family of the weather extremes and the snakes that were in abundance out on the desert. She also had many fond memories of her school years and the friends she made.
In 1945 she graduated from Albion Normal School with a degree in elementary education, a dream of hers from a very young age. After graduation she taught at Poplar Hill and Kimberly Elementary Schools. After her marriage she substitute taught when there was a need.
Ivy married Lantie Cox on Nov. 23, 1953, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage plus three children. She resided her entire married life in Kimberly, taking care of home life as her husband ran, with his brothers, a custom farming operation. After their retirement, they traveled across the US, Alaska and Canada. After her husband’s death in 2006 she enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren of whom she was very proud. She spoke often of her young life and of the 1946 Ford sedan she purchased new when she started teaching. She still owned it at the time of her death.
Ivy is survived by her two sons, Raymond Cox of Jerome and Jerry Cox of Twin Falls; one daughter, Carol (Chuck) Vawser of Kimberly; three grandsons, Jason, Andrew and Matthew; six great-grandchildren, Justine, Jessica, Jayla, Lillie, Mildred and Milo; one great-great granddaughter, Jaidence; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ivy will be Friday, December 4th at 12 p.m. at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road in Twin Falls, with Pastor Paul Thompson from Eastside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho. Friends may call Thursday, December 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
